What a day…

Got out in the sunshine for a hike in the woods. On a hunch, I headed down a side trail and looked over to see this:

Took a closer look:

I stood quietly at a distance for about 15 minutes, and it didn’t seem right. It could‘t seem to fly, and when it flapped its wings, they just didn’t seem to be working in balance.

So I called a handful of wildlife rescue numbers, and hung out with my neighbor till the cavalry could mobilize.

Eventually a couple of gals showed up with big nets on long poles. After some maneuvering, they netted the bird and carried him out to a carrier to go for help

And the eagle landed… safe and sound in a carrier so it can be transferrred safely for rehab.

I sure hope it makes it.

What a wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternnoon.
